'The Man' was the name the players dubbed the first GM of JohnisDead. The Man ran the first arc of JohnisDead - the YSHDT Arc, before the other group of GM's, The Guys, took over. At the end of the YSHDT arc, The Man was revealed to have been Dawn of a New Day, a fellow player.

Behind the Scenes

The first person to find YSHDT.com, essentially kicking off the ARG, was a user on Within Hubris named 'thelaw'. This was actually an alt account of Dawn of a New Day, bringing attention to the site. While The Man had most of the control over the YSHDT arc, The Guys were slowly setting up what would become the later arcs. The Man repeatedly stated that he does not control Patrem, and that it was actually The Guys that controlled his account on Within Hubris. This means that there were multiple GM's on different sites collaborating and updating at the same time.

Conversations

The Man himself would often join the Internet Detectives Skype group and directly converse with the players, giving non canon updates. All of the recorded conversations are posted below.

2/20/15

The first contact with The Man. Unfortunately, this conversation has not been recorded. The Man tells us that he is the current GM, and that the user Drown, a strange user who had earlier joined the Skype group and left several messages, was merely a distraction and should not have been taken seriously. It's important to note, however, that Drown would later be considered a canon character in future arcs. He continues, warning us to not take everything at face value.

2/21/15

Another conversation that sadly was not recorded. The Man proves that he is the GM by having Doug post an update on Letschasethemouse quoting something that was said in the Skype group. Before leaving, The Man scolds players on not effectively relaying information to each other well enough, as the playerbase was currently spread across many different Skype groups at the time.

2/24/15

The Man gives players a brief update and notifies us that the next update will take slightly longer than expected. Some light shitposting takes place shortly after this in a small QnA session. The Man's responses are down below.

The GM claims that he is not a user from Within Hubris, and that he has 'helpers' in the various Skype groups giving him info on the players. This would later turn out to be a lie. The Man also says that he has no control over Patrem, hinting towards the existence of The Guys. The Man confirms the vote of Doug, and explains that we were voting for which save file to choose. He says that one user, Mando, was swaying the votes of the other users towards Doug. He goes onto explain that Doug and Mason weren't the only options, and that he was intentionally misleading the players.

The Man announces the end of his ARG, citing personal issues and the player's group dynamic as the leading cause. He goes on to reveal that his ARG is leading into an even larger ARG being created by a different group of GM's, who would later become known as The Guys. A fellow player, CircleHunter, reveals himself as the second Helper - the one who took the Postman's Hat. Another user, Mando, is also once again confirmed to have been helping The Man throughout the ARG, leading the other players down certain paths.

The Man finally admits that he was Dawn of a New Day, a fellow player, all along. A final video closing out the arc is uploaded by Dawn, reiterating these points.
